To Ribbon or Not To Ribbon

...that is the question. I tried out some of the wonderful sheer 1/8" ribbon from SU on this creation and curled it with my finger and thumb nail. I am not sure about the outcome.

This is another VLV sketch for week two of April. I decided on a landscape layout and twisted things around a bit but it is the same sketch.

The base is my usual white card from a Michaels package. Then I added a layer of garden green and attached the three rectangles which were cut from SU's DSP pack, Beyond the Garden. I am liking the coral, peach, and green combo.

I stamped the image (Bird & Butterfly Labels from Our Daily Bread Designs) with coral ink on white c/s, then die cut it using a Spellbinders #18 label die. I decided to leave the sentiment oval blank for now. I will die cut an oval with a suitable sentiment when I decide to use this card.

The leafy swirls were die cut from the green c/s using Cheery Lynne's Tropical Flourish die (my new fav), and the butterflies were die cut using Spellbinders Butterflies 2. I left them in the dies and sponged on some coral ink before removing and shaping them.

I wrapped a piece of white sheer/satin ribbon (SU) around a rectangle of coral c/s. Then I attached the flourishes to the label and put it on the card with foam dimensionals. I curled the coral ribbon and attached it to the backs of the butterflies with glue dots, the used more glue dots to add them to the card.

I am still undecided about the ribbon. Maybe I just need to shorten them a bit.

That is it for now. Have a great day and get your fingers inky.

Verve Challenge Revisited

With enough free time on my hands in the next week or so, I have decided to take another stab at the Viva la Verve Sketch Challenge. Unusual for me I know, but I will start with the week one sketch.

And here is my interpretation. I chose the patterned paper first and then just rolled with it. I love the bright, cheerful colours here.
The card base is another card from a package of plain white cards and envelopes from Michaels. It is just so convenient and economical too. Then I cut a piece of daffodil c/s (SU) and embossed it with an embossing folder, also SU, which I believe is no longer available.

The white rectangle and circle (die cut with Spellbinders classic circles die) were embossed with the 'Dotted Swiss' folder. Behind the white circle is a scallop circle, also Spellbinders, cut from some rose coloured paper I had in my stash. The banner is die cut with SB banners die and stamped with a greeting from HFC's 'Door to My Heart' and some black Memories ink. I attached the circle with foam dimensionals.

The striped paper is S.E.I. and the flowers were die cut from a matching piece of S.E.I. with the SB carnation die. I put them together with glue dots and added some pewter dew drops. The wonderful pear green (SU) flourish was die cut with a Cheery Lynne die, Tropical Flourish.

I used lots of dies on this card which is good because I have gone a little crazy buying dies lately and I need to start putting all my purchases to use.

I hope the lively colours on this card put spring into your heart.

Stick 'em Up!

It is another beautiful morning in AZ and we are preparing to spend the day on Lake Saguaro on a party barge with 3 other couples. But I wanted to get this card posted so that I could mail it to my DIL en route.

It is a CAS and came together quickly. I started with the wonderful peel-and-stick outline stickers (brand?) which I put on some beautiful origami paper that I had in my stash. Then I fussy cut around the outer edges. You can see how pretty the origami paper is in the close up. It has subtle gold touches that don't show up in the photos.

The rose coloured mat is also a leftover I found in the scrap pile. The borders and greeting, also peel-and-stick, are Starform.

This card was as quick to make as it was to describe. I have a large stash of these stickers and they come in very handy when I need to make a card in a hurry.

A bit of the two papers and a piece of the border make up the inside.

Happy Birthday Deyrdre.

Southern Comfort

Wow. I can't believe a whole month has flown by since I last stamped or blogged. We have been so busy here with company that getting all my supplies out and occupying the only workspace I have here, the dining table, has been out of the question.

This card is for my cousin who lost her husband and I will have to put it into the mail today, so I had to get the pictures taken quickly.

The textured ivory base cardstock is Bazzill as is the mat and the larger oval mat. The c/s for these latter two is called Two Scoops (orange sorbet) and is already embossed with that pattern. The oval is the flip side of the paper which is two colours.

The stamps are from Heartfelt's Floral Cross collection; Malabar Clematis, Twining Clematis, and Cross and Lilies. I also used HFC's matching Cross and Lilies Die to cut the cross and the flowers. I used a cotton swab (I know!) and SU inks (Pear, Peach, and Coral) to colour the flowers, leaves, and stems. Then I shaped them and layered them on the Stamped cross image. The cross was then attached to the card front with foam dimensionals.

I stamped one spray of flowers separately on Ivory c/s and fussy cut it into two, then added some more shaped flowers to the sprays.

I die cut the peach and ivory ovals with Spellbinders classic oval dies. The ivory one was left in the die while I sponged on some coral ink. Then I removed it, added the sentiment from the cross set with black memories ink and attached it to the peach oval.

The scroll medallions behind the oval were die cut using HFC's Decorative Butterfly Border Die. These were glued to the mat and then the oval piece was added with foam dimensionals. Then the sprays were attached using a combination of glue and dimensionals.

The final touches to the front were the pearls and some Flower Soft in the flower centers.

On the inside of the card, I stamped the greeting from the Cross and Lilies and two sprays from the Twining Clematis which were coloured as on the card front.

I really love these new sets from HFC and I think I will get a lot of use from them.
